Put money on your screen time.
Join a challenge, keep an app under its daily limit, and split the pot with everyone who holds. Spoe measures with Apple's Screen Time, and can lock the app when you hit your limit.

How it works
Make scrolling cost something
Whether you hold is up to you. What you win depends on how many others don't.
-
Pick a challenge and buy in
"Stay under 45m on Instagram every day, for 7 days." Your buy-in goes into the pot.
-
Stay under your limit
Your ghost fills as you use the app and gets nervous near the limit. Turn on the lock and Spoe walls the app off when you reach it.
-
Hold every day, split the pot
Everyone who held every day shares the buy-ins of everyone who didn't. Winnings land in your balance.

A ghost for every app
See your day fill up
Each app you're holding gets a ghost on your Home screen. It fills as you use the app, gets nervous as you near your limit, and deflates if the day breaks.
- One ghost per challenge or goal, in that app's colours
- Your week, day by day, under the ghosts
- Only you see your minutes
The lock
Your limit, enforced
Turn on the lock and Spoe puts a wall in front of the app when you hit your limit, so one more scroll doesn't cost you the week.
- Your choice, on or off for each challenge
- Getting past it takes two taps, so it's never an accident
Solo goals
Or bet on yourself, alone
Put a stake on a goal of your own, like keeping your apps closed from 10pm to 7am. Keep it every day and the whole stake comes back. Miss it and Spoe keeps it, unless a same-day redemption wins part of it back.
- Stakes from $10 to $500
- No fee on solo goals
Why it's fair
Built so the only thing that counts is you
Measured, not reported
Your minutes come from Screen Time on your iPhone. Nobody types in a number.
Your minutes stay yours
Nobody else in a challenge sees your screen time. They only see who's still in.
Rules up front
Every challenge states its rule, its days, the buy-in and the fee before you pay.
Refunds when it's on us
If Spoe cancels a challenge, or a fault on Spoe's side costs you a run, the buy-in and fee come back the way you paid.
FAQ
Questions, answered
How does the money work?
Every challenge shows its buy-in and Spoe's fee before you pay. For a $20 buy-in:
- Buy-in, which goes into the pot
- $20.00
- Spoe fee, 15% of the buy-in. Not part of the pot, and not refunded if you miss a day
- $3.00
- Hold every day: an equal share of the pot, never less than your buy-in
- $20+
- Miss a day: your buy-in stays in the pot
- $0
If everyone holds, everyone gets their buy-in back. If nobody holds, Spoe keeps the pot. Solo goals have no fee: you pick a stake from $10 to $500 and get it all back if you keep the goal. Money a solo goal returns after a card payment can be cashed out 30 days after that payment.
How do I get paid?
Winnings go to your Spoe balance once the challenge settles. Cash them out to your bank once you reach the minimum, or use them for your next challenge.
What if I go over my limit?
That day breaks your run, and your buy-in stays in the pot for the people who held. If nobody holds, Spoe keeps it.
Who can join?
Anyone 18 or older in the US, on an iPhone, in a state where Spoe is offered.
What does Spoe see of my phone?
Only how long you use the apps your challenges cover, through Apple's Screen Time. Never what you do in them.
When can I get it?
Spoe is in a private beta on iPhone. Join the waitlist and we'll email you when there's a spot.
